A Brief Overview of Sevadhyas Foundation
Sevadhyas Foundation is a pledge undertaken by us — The 1996 batch of City High School, Sangli, along with our circle of friends — to give back to society.
In 2019, when the city of Sangli was struck by a devastating flood, its residents faced numerous hardships. During this crisis, Sevadhyas identified the immediate needs of the affected citizens and began its journey by distributing mattresses to nearly 300 families in need.
Just as the city was recovering from this disaster, the global COVID-19 pandemic emerged in 2020. During this difficult time, families dependent on daily wages suffered immensely. In response, Sevadhyas provided ration kits to approximately 90 to 100 such families to help meet their basic nutritional needs.
In the interim, Sevadhyas also became aware of the challenges faced by destitute elderly individuals in the community. In line with this, the foundation initiated a program to distribute monthly ration supplies and essential items, along with providing medical assistance to these elderly citizens.
Recognizing that today’s students are tomorrow’s responsible citizens, Sevadhyas also began supporting bright and underprivileged students by offering financial aid for education, distributing school supplies, and providing guidance to ensure that no student is forced to drop out of the educational system due to financial difficulties.
Alongside building its social presence, Sevadhyas also aimed to establish a formal legal identity. In pursuit of this goal, Sevadhyas Foundation was officially registered on February 10, 2022, under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 with the Office of the Charity Commissioner.
Important Objectives of the Organization
- To reach and help as many destitute and needy elderly people as possible with the support of donors.
- To fulfill the educational needs of as many bright and underprivileged students as possible.
- To invite various expert individuals to schools to provide guidance and direction for students' careers after their education.
- To make efforts to digitize Marathi schools and Anganwadis to foster a love of learning among children.
- To guide students on various aspects such as following traffic rules, protecting nature, etc., to cultivate social responsibility with the idea that "an ideal citizen can build a better nation."
- To provide financial assistance for higher education (e.g., Medical, Engineering, etc.) to poor, bright, and aspiring students.
- To collect old books (school textbooks, storybooks, general knowledge books, etc.) and distribute them to Anganwadis and municipal schools.
- To collect and repair old unused bicycles and donate them to needy people.
